I had absolutely no problem hooking the printer up to my PC since I already had a Brother's laser printer that died there but three different people have tried to get my laptop to print to the printer and we haven't succeeded yet. The actual printer is great but it is frustrating that I am having so much trouble with the wireless connection.

Great printer for the $! Went from an ink jet to this one. Does a great job, even looks great on the ink saving setting! Only con is the noise, it is quite loud when printing (wouldn't be a problem ,but it's in our bedroom & my husband has been doing lots of late nite printing!). We have 3 computers networked to it & have had no problems.

Purchased this printer in Aug so I have been an owner for about 7 months. It has been an excellent printer. It was a replacement to my HP LaserJet Series II which was a horse but ready for the glue factory. We have put 1579 pages on the "Starter" cartridge which specifies only 1000 pages, but we generally print with Toner Saver. I have now just installed a knock-off cartridge from SuperMedia and it was a breeze to install and we are back in business. As it is a 360 equiv cartridge which specifies 2600 pages I hope to get over 3000. I have this configured over wireless which was initially 802.11b (11MB) and then I got a new router that was 802.11G/N so I had to reconfig. I did not use the Brother automatic software as I am too suspicious, I was able to configure over the web (hard wired at first). The user interface is not trivial but workable for a knowledgeable person. We print to this printer from 4 different computers attached both phisically to the network and wirelessly with Only a power cord runing to the printer. I have used the printer successfully with a LinkSys Access Point and now a NetGear Wireless Router. The printer only supports 802.11b/g so it is connected at 54MB now using WPA-PSK [TKIP].

This printer in my opinion is a no-brainer to get. <$150 and 1500 pages and $30 more for another 3000 pages. It shows only 2 paper jams on its log web page, both were caused by user errors in 1579 pages. It is an Excellent Printer for the money.

Was originally trying to decide on a color inkjet type printer or a b/w laser printer.

Specifically I was avoiding Hewlett Packard printers because their drivers are so bloated that it would always make the fan on my laptop go haywire...even if I was just printing out a single page word document! Brother printer drivers are super minimal in comparison and my Macbook doesn't even blink.

I chose this printer and I haven't looked back. Have had it for about 2 years and it works like a charm. My wife and I both use the wireless from three different laptops (IBM thinkpad, iBook, and Macbook) and it is nearly flawless. The great thing about the wireless is that you can print from separate computers without having to worry about the queue or swapping out the USB cable, etc. And you can print from any room in the house! Set up was smooth although you have to make sure that you follow the instructions (and do the initial setup wired!). Have had to turn the printer off/on about 3 times since we bought it because it wouldn't wake from sleep but other than that have not had any problems.

Prints fast, rocksteady reliability, wireless, small footprint, compact drivers, and under $100, what more can you ask for?

I had investigated laser printers for some time, wanting to reduce the cost of printing with my hp inkjet. I had heard good things about the Brother brand and when
this model(HL-2170w) went on sale, I couldn't pass it up. I have not been disappointed at all.
